Jeff's gear list is pretty short, and he usually kept things simple on stage. Despite what some other sites claim, he did not use many pedals or other types of FX during his live shows. Jeff's tone was in his fingers, and splashed with a little bit of reverb he had his sound. In the later years with the band, Jeff and Michael Tighe used identical equipment to give that sound the right touch live.

Jeff Buckley's main guitars were a Guild acoustic, a borrowed Fender Telecaster and a Rickenbacker 360/12 12-string. There were some gigs where he used other guitars like his flowered Telecaster (a gift from a fan), but these were pretty rare. He uses a Fender Vibro-verb amp for acoustic amplification and a two channel Mesa Boogie 2x12 for electrics. On later live gigs he used an Alesis Quadraverb unit for reverb and ambience with his two combos. He also used the Alesis foot controller, both of which can be seen on the "Live In Chicago" DVD. I haven't yet verified exactly what type of old silver Fender he used on the Sin-é gigs.

Strings of choice are made by D'Addario. He also uses an old steel dobro and a Bina harmonium from Pakistan. For all of his slide guitar work he employs Jim Dunlop slides. He uses custom picks provided to him by Columbia Records.

After experimenting with several microphones for Jeff's vocals, producer Andy Wallace settled on a Neumann U87.

Mick Grondahl played a Fender Jazz bass through an Ampeg bass amp.

Matt Johnson played Slingerland drums and Zildjian cymbals.

Michael Tighe uses identical gear as Jeff to assist in creating a harmonious soundscape.
